DRAM Delivers Dialed-Down Version of Andre 3000’s “Prototype” and “Caretaker”

Summer is in full swing and Virginia lyricist DRAM has been more or less missing in action–that is until today.

Early Wednesday morning (July 11), the “Broccoli” rapper shared a somber rendition of the Andre 3000 deep cut, “Prototype,” as well as his own SZA-assisted single, “Caretaker.” The Virginia lyricist tweeted, “always love when i get to sing,” along with a brief snippet of the accompanying visuals.

Adding to the vibes of the mellow tracks, DRAM is seen performing each song in a lo-fi nightclub as he is backed by just an electric piano and bass. Displaying his vocal talents before an intimate audience, DRAM makes his cover of “Prototype” all his own. The bare bones arrangement is even more striking as they effortlessly complement the rapper’s crooning.

While DRAM has remained relatively mum about the arrival of new music, his stripped down session is a follow-up to his recent bevy of collaborations. Earlier this year, he hopped on Clean Bandit and Julia Michaels’ “I Miss You (Remix)” as well as A$AP Rocky’s “Five Stars.”
